All about Ear

Do you know how we hear The human ear is divided into three parts, each of which has a specific function. The outer ear the flesh part is called the Pinna sets like a receiver. In the middle of the pinna is a bony canal which leads to the eardrum or the Tympanic membrane.Any sound  which is in the form of waves, sets this membranes to vibrate.Behind the membrane is the middle ear which acts like an amplifier. The three bones in the middle ear ,the Malleus(hammer),the Stapes(stirup) and the Incus(anvil) which act like a gear system to amplify the sound  20times.The vibrations  are then passed to the inner ear which is the transmitter. The hearing portion of the inner ear is coiled like a
snail"s shell and is called the Cochlea. This membrane has two thousands
of tiny nerve fibres which are connected to the Cochlea nerve All this is surrounded by a fluid called Endolmph  when the vibrations are passed to the inner ear, the fluid is set in motion. The tiny  nerve fibres detect this movement and send a message to the Cochelea nerve, which in turn flashes the message to the brain which in turnflashes the message to the brain which interprets the sound. Thus we are able to hear.

Do you know balancing of our body is done by our Ear.Humans are the only animals to walk upright. This is possible when one has a strong  sense of balance.  The inner
ear ,apart from  Cochleas are a maze of tubes, also filled with the
sane Endolymph. These tubes are at different angles and levels. At the base of two of these  semicircular tubes is a jelly like substance in which are enbedded tiny, sensitive hairs whenever  there is any sharp movements of the head ,the fluid also moves. The tiny hairs detects this movement and send messages to the brain through the (vestibular nerve). The brainthen gives commands to restore the body"s balance. If the movement continue for a long time, the fluid keeps moving even when the rest of the body has stopped. This makes us feel dizzy or giddy.
